Jaropa Tech Limited
Search Engine Submission Scams
Search Engine Submission
One of our clients recently reveived a phone call from a person claiming to be from, or representing, Google.
Our client was asked to pay, by credit card, in order to retain her Google listing. If she didn'y pay, she
would lose her entry on Google, she was told. When she informed the caller that Jaropa Tech provided
her website services, she was told that Jaropa Tech are only responsible for building the website, not
for getting it listed on Google.
Fortunately, our client checked with us first. We told her NOT TO PAY anything!
This type of call or email is a SCAM.
Our client then phoned the caller back. She introduced herself and was immediately
asked is she was calling back with her credit card details.
When she replied "No" and that she had actually phoned to say that she didn't want
the 'services' supposedly on offer.
the person at the other end simply said, “Well, that's your choice” and hung up.
Please be clear: when you purchase a service from Jaropa Tech, we handle everything and you don't need
to pay anything to anybody else. Ever.
These scams
Search Engine Submission scams may arrive as cold calls or email and most offer to submit your site to
1000s of search engines and to rapidly increase traffic to your site. Unfortunately, there aren't
thousands of search engines and you really only want relevant visits to your site anyway.
Think about search engines and try to count how many you know of. You will probably come up with quite a
short list including Google, Yahoo and Bing. So will your potential customers. These are the ones that
you need to be listed with and it's not worth paying a penny, let alone £30 a month, to get listed on
'thousands' of others.
Remember that all Jaropa Tech websites are listed on our own Jaropa Target website, which means that
every website we build will be found through us. Paying anyone else will not speed up the process and
is unlikely to improve your site's ranking or even increase traffic to your site.
What can I do to improve my website's visibility?
There are several way and we can help you with all of them!
Firstly, and perhaps most simply, make sure you put your website address, in full, on every piece of paper
that you use in the course of your business: letterheads, invoices, compliments slips, business cards,
leaflets, advertisements, flyers, special offers, till receipts... Remember these pieces of paper are
given to people relevant to your business or locality and will increase awareness of your website.
If you have a shop, make sure your website name is prominently displayed. If possible, have something
that they can take away with them that has your site's name on it. Can your till print your web
address at the bottom of receipts?
Get the wording of your website right! Make sure it is always accurate, relevant and fully up to date.
We always help with this right from the first steps of building your website.
Get your business listed on relevant online directories. Many of these are free and people using them
to find businesses will be able to home in on just those that are relevant to their needs. Make sure
that the directory will allow you to include a clickable link to your website so that it's easy for
visitors to find their way to you. If an online directory charges, think carefully about whether it's
worth the cost.
Finding other businesses to link to and getting them to link to yours can be useful but make sure that
the links you use are of genuine interest to your visitors. Having other websites linking to yours can
increase your traffic but is only really useful if those visits are from people interested in what you
do or sell, so think carefully about where your site is listed.
Finally...
