Dominance in the Search Engine arena, according to information from
Market Share
by Net Applications, is again largely unchanged over the last twelve months.
With Google and Yahoo! accounting for over 90%, the multitude of other
search engines hardly gets a look in and one thing is
clear: if you want to be found, you really need to be on Google. To many users,
it's the first and perhaps the only place to look.
Even Bing from the mighty Microsoft can only muster up a tad over 3%.
However, other search engines have their uses, some being specific to certain industries or business
types. A search (on Google
of course) for search engines may result in a surprise as there are so many to choose from.
Getting your name on as many as possible cannot be a bad thing, as long as they are relevant to your business.
If you've never heard of Baidu before, it accounts for over three quarters of the
Chinese market but under 3% globally.
